Trumpcare Travesty

When the big reveal finally came, when the Senate Republicans finally unveiled the health bill they’ve been working on in secret, it wasn’t a healthcare bill at all; it was a tax cut bill. There it was, in the cold, unsparing light of day, a huge, brutally sharp screw instead of a reassuring caduceus — the symbol like the winged staff of Mercury from ancient mythology, a version of which you usually see at hospitals and doctors’ offices.

Beside this mocking screw symbol, there was a huge bag of money — tax cuts for the haughty rich, people who really already have the best healthcare in the world, and who don’t pay their fair share in this country. Everything has been skewed in favor of the wealthy in recent years, and now average Americans will literally die so that the rich can have another tax cut.

Happy birthday, America! You’re about to celebrate Independence Day, and Mitch McConnell and his crew are carrying water for the Koch brothers. They’re rushing to get this abomination passed by the U.S. Senate by July Fourth, and they’re doing their part to kick millions of poor and middle-class Americans off healthcare by repealing the Affordable Care Act. In so doing, they're doing the bidding of the greedy right-wing oligarchs by promoting a wealthy aristocracy — a new hereditary ruling class of oligarchs — not unlike the Old World order that the Founding Fathers fought to escape.

We’ll see if the Senate Republicans come up with the votes. Some Republicans are disturbed that this travesty doesn’t go far enough in chopping back entitlements that they see going to lazy “takers” in American society.

So remember when you see Trump supporters waving the flag and trying to sound patriotic, they’re the astonishingly un-American ones who want to take away healthcare for average people and concentrate power and money in the aristocratic millionaire and billionaire classes.
