Since Donald Trump was elected president, many people have come up to me and said they were afraid this president would get us into a war.

After striking the Shayrat air base near Homs in Syria earlier this month, Trump basked in bipartisan praise. He enjoyed the flexing of military muscle so much that he dropped the huge “mother of all bombs” on an Islamic State target in Afghanistan about a week later, and received more plaudits from conservatives.

He’s been talking tough about North Korea in response to belligerence from Pyongyang. This month, Trump tweeted, “North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them! U.S.A.”

A number of presidents of both parties have found that there are no easy solutions to the North Korea problem.

With the carrier U.S.S. Carl Vinson conducting exercises nearby, China has urged the White House to tone down the rhetoric and exercise restraint.

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t put it past this president to use military action to boost his approval ratings.
