Nonprofits can be the worst perpetrators of fraud because they know no one would really suspect them since they are formed for altruistic reasons and the IRS must approve their tax exempt status. You don't hear about fraud much in nonprofits except for the really big cases (e.g. United Way in 1992). Here are some practices and behaviors I’ve seen in nonprofits that all donors and philanthropists...  Read More

K-12 education has hit another low. I was volunteering for my church tutoring high school remedial science and math the other day for a group of kids who failed their subjects. They told me the kids are not allowed to take the textbooks home with them. I was incredulous. What is with this new policy? How do teachers expect kids to learn if they don’t get to take the book home to read it and use...  Read More

There are no major revelations in this blog but just a review of a great science PR event related to my first blog about the need for PR for nanotechnology. I had the fortune and pleasure to attend the 10 th Annual Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate at the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City this past Monday night. The live event was sold out (900+) with 300...  Read More

Recently news came out with the invention of smaller chips created by another method of growing nanowires and the invention of nanowires that could generate energy when in motion. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12417858 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7241040.stm As I live in New York City, I thought we should be more ambitious with the application to just being able...  Read More

I was invited to a select salon at Science House with Hybrid Reality Institute to discuss the future of nanotechnology a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a lot of fun meeting interesting people and speaking about what I love but it did dawn on me that during that dinner that people thought nanotechnology was no longer happening. They had not even heard of the stain resistant pants, transparent...  Read More

BestThinking.com to Shut Down Permanently on December 31, 2017

If you want to save a copy of your content, you must do so before the website shuts down on December 31, 2017. We will NOT be able to provide any assistance after the website shuts down. We are available at support@thinkermedia.com only until the shutdown to provide more information and assistance.

It was a noble 10-year experiment, but it turns out that the writers with the best content are the least adept at the tech required to publish under our model, which in hindsight, makes perfect sense. If you are dedicating your life to becoming an expert in your specialty, you don’t have a lot of time left for figuring out publishing tech.

It hasn't helped that we have entered an age of unprecedented polarization and antagonism which doesn't foster demand for a website dedicated to the respectful engagement of diverse views.

Thank you, everyone!
