This will be my last post on It's been great to share my work with this unique and engaged audience. It's sort of fitting that this is the last cartoon I'll be posting. When I was asked to contribute to BestThinking, it was because I was more conservative than many political commentators. While that remains the case, most of my cartoons over the last several years have mocked...  Read More

We stole the above title from an MSN headline - we didn't read the article, but the article included a picture of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. This writer has a number of times posed this question: "What can one really know, or how much can one actually understand an individual, or an Administration, apart from what the Pres reports? The question has been asked before, but...  Read More

On Fox News Sunday 17 December 2017, Juan Williams (Fox News analyst/contributor and columnist) and Donna Edwards (Democrat Congresswoman from Maryland), joined Rich Lowry (Editor of the National Review) and Brian Kilmeade (Fox News morning host) on the panel discussing – among other topics – the Republican Tax-Reform Bill. Naturally, Juan Williams and the Congresswoman were concerned about how...  Read More

This is my final post on BestThinking. I’ve done more than 500 of them since 2012, and have been free to express my opinion on the issues of the day. For that I’m very grateful to this website, which has been a noble effort. As you know by now, BestThinking will shut down permanently on Dec. 31. I’m also thankful for my readers — or audience, as we say more often nowadays — for hearing me out....  Read More

What has happened to the Republicans? They used to be the Carrie Nation of budgetary temperance, crusading against deficit spending, and quite prepared to wreck the joint in order to have their radical way. Now they’re the falling-down drunks of deficit spending. Their sloppy patchwork tax “reform” plan shows the requisite contempt for the poor and working people while buying round after round...  Read More

(I must retract my "Last Post" notice [12.07.17] to add the following to "Senator Pedophile" [11.22.17]. I know this will infuriate my detractors, but I don't care.) Trumpy-Dumpy had a great fall. Everyone now smells it all. So he bannons for Roy -- Oh, he's a good ol' boy -- Forgetting America's moral.  Read More

Former Federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy III (McCarthy is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York; he led the 1995 terrorism prosecution against Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman - the bind sheik...) has been following and writing of the Russian-collusion probe since its inception. McCarthy has indicated that the probe is a predicate for impeachment, since there isn't...  Read More

When asked why he robbed banks, the famous American bank robber, Willie Sutton, is supposed to have said, “Because that’s where the money is.” If it’s possible to be the reverse of Willie Sutton, it must be Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress. They’re robbing the middle class and poor taxpayers of America — who definitely aren’t where the money is — to give whopping tax breaks to the...  Read More

Conservative evangelical Christians are a falcon turning and turning in a widening gyre. The falcon seems to no longer hear the Falconer, and anarchy has been loosed upon the political world. The Falconer is, of course, the Christian message of the Gospel. These “Christians” no longer pay any attention to the Ten Commandments and the teachings of Christianity. Evangelicals supported the anger,...  Read More

An individual today - in this writer's hearing - mentioned Dan Rather in passing, and upon hearing Rather name a number of memories regarding Rather were recalled. In 1987, or thereabouts, this writer regularly would go to the College Union a couple days a week (the writer had a couple of hours to kill between classes). At the Union - one particular semester - five or six students (to include...  Read More

10. “The right-wing, fascistic refusal to recognize the damage being done to Gaia the earth by the burning of fossil fuels, over-harvesting of the oceans, and systematic, illegal suppression of alternative sources of energy condemns the next generations of human beings across the entire planet to an existence of misery and slavery, which is the ultimate goal of the autocracy now destroying...  Read More

At a rally last week in Missouri, our so-called president, Donald Trump, called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a “sick puppy.” Trump, who Kim’s state-run media calls an “old lunatic,” probably knows a sick puppy when he sees one. And he sees one every morning in the mirror. Vanity Fair has quoted White House insiders who relate that Trump is “unraveling mentally.” One of Trump’s hometown...  Read More

"The Republican Party turning a deaf ear and blind eye to pedophiles, violators of women's bodies, and hypocritical patriarchs who crucify the teachings of Yeshua by beating their wives and children mercilessly to bolster their own fragile egos’ gross insecurity, effectively isolates and identifies the Republican Party as the avowed enemy of the spirit of liberty that inspired the founding of...  Read More

Our responses to Professor Allen Shoaf are indicated below. 4. Every vicious exploitation of media, what I castigate as DIGITALIA , from fake news to idiot-o-logical claims of “objective truth” (which only serve savage materialism's totally subjective greed), can be instantiated in all contemporary political machinations but most especially in those of the Republican Party and its subversion of...  Read More

Cody Jarrett, the fearless robber and sadistic murderer played by James Cagney in the 1949 movie “White Heat” was intended to be the toughest and most menacing gangster in filmdom. To achieve that end, the writers and production team followed Cagney’s advice to “make him (the character) nuts.” I haven’t seen the movie in many years, but I refreshed my memory because I was thinking about another...  Read More

In Greek mythology, Medusa was a Gorgon whose visage — with a tangle of venomous snakes for hair — was so hideous, it would turn viewers to stone. Nearly 22 years ago, I depicted Bill Clinton’s telecommunications legislation as a “bill of goods” with a Medusa head. I’m not an expert in telecommunications policy, and I can’t recall all the details, but at the time I thought it was a bad idea. I...  Read More

The Senate Republicans have hastily knocked together a tax bill that’s big and complex and is full of broken promises. Nobody seems to know exactly what’s in the bill — some of it is illegibly scrawled in the margins — and there was no careful deliberation and open hearings as you would think there would be for something so important. It doubtless satisfies the wealthy donors with its tax cuts...  Read More

In drafting the Bill of Rights the Founding Father's were split as to whether to include a clearly delineated description of what Rights were beyond the purview of the Federal Government; some argued (the Anti-Federalists) that the Constitution of the United States was not sufficient to protect the Rights of the citizenry from a Government which would eventually arrogate and aggregate unto the...  Read More

President Trump and his people have been claiming that his tax plan will magically spur business investment and lead to more jobs and higher wages. It will be a bonanza the likes of which we’ve never seen, Trump tells us. Polls show that the country doesn’t buy that, and Trump’s top White House economic advisor got an embarrassingly tepid response from a group of CEOs and top executives...  Read More

Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), on the ABC Sunday morning program “This Week.” She’s talking about the culture of secrecy on Capitol Hill where sexual misconduct is concerned. Speier is one of those in Congress promoting legislation that would make the handling of sexual misconduct claims in the U.S. Capitol more transparent. ...  Read More

Since President George H.W. Bush granted a reprieve to a turkey at the White House, presidents have made such poultry pardons an annual tradition. Chief executives before the 41st president sometimes spared turkeys presented to them, but clemency has become standard since Bush. This Thanksgiving, there is no need to present the president with a turkey. Some would say giving Trump a turkey would...  Read More
