In the beginning was the pun. Samuel Beckett

Greed Forbid!

“No matter, never mind” boasts a double-take
Almost seismic in its psychic aftermath:
Truth upsurging that power prefers covert
Lest understanding rise to thwart its trick
Of making men think something “spiritual”
Justifies their malign self-righteousness —
Greed forbid we agree we all are meat
Evolved from the same ingredients
That boil in everything Gaia cooks up,
Including minds rising in animal brains.
