Will North Korea Give Up its Nuclear Weapons?

The major Asian countries with civil nuclear programmes - China, India and South Korea – have, post-Fukushima, reaffirmed their nuclear programmes, but with plans to review nuclear safety measures and emergency procedures. The future of the nuclear industry lies in Asia rather than in the west.

The American B-61 upgrading programme is the most expensive and complex nuclear-warhead modernization programme since the Cold War. However, the deployment of tactical nuclear bombs in Europe serves no military purpose that cannot be performed by either American strategic or conventional forces.

The U.N. has assembled a team of international experts to investigate the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict. President Obama made it clear that any use of CWC specified chemical weapons by Bashar al-Assad’s government would mark a ‘red line’ and could be a potential catalyst for war.
